Sennheiser’s Momentum True Wireless 5 earbuds have entered regular sale in India at ₹29,990, bringing an unusually repair-friendly feature to the premium wireless-audio market: owners can replace the batteries in both earbuds and the charging case.
Most true wireless earbuds become difficult to justify once their tiny sealed batteries lose capacity. Sennheiser’s design does not make every component repairable, but it gives buyers a practical way to address the failure that most often shortens an earbud’s useful life.
India pricing and availability
The Sennheiser India store currently lists the Momentum True Wireless 5 at ₹29,990 including taxes, below a stated MRP of ₹34,990. Regular Indian sales began October 1 after a preorder period, according to Gadgets 360.
The earbuds launched internationally in September. Sennheiser announced a US suggested price of $299.95, with regional pricing and available colors varying by market. India’s product page shows multiple finishes, while the company’s global announcement names Graphite, Cream, Copper, Denim and Lavender.
The replaceable batteries are the real headline
Each earbud uses a replaceable battery, and the charging case has a separate replaceable cell. Sennheiser says the housings can be opened with a standard Phillips PH000 screwdriver. The company identifies the replacements as the BA 501 set for the two earbuds and the BA 502 for the case.
A battery-replacement tool is included in the box in some regional product listings. That is a meaningful change from the glued or sealed construction common in true wireless earbuds, where a worn battery can turn an otherwise functional product into electronic waste.
There is an important caveat: Sennheiser says the replacement batteries will be offered in the European Union and selected additional countries. Buyers in India and other markets should confirm local battery availability and pricing before treating repairability as guaranteed. The ability to open the product is only useful if genuine cells remain easy to buy several years from now.
Battery life and charging
Sennheiser claims up to 12 hours from the earbuds on a charge and as much as 40 hours total with the case. Those headline figures depend on settings. Reporting around the Indian launch says playback drops to about six hours with active noise cancellation enabled.
The redesigned case supports USB-C and Qi wireless charging. Sennheiser says an eight-minute wired charge can provide roughly one hour of listening. Real battery life will vary with volume, codec, noise cancellation, phone, call use and wireless conditions.
Audio and noise-canceling features
The Momentum True Wireless 5 uses Sennheiser’s 7mm TrueResponse dynamic driver. The company supports aptX Adaptive and aptX Lossless, including a selectable 24-bit/96kHz high-resolution mode when the source device and audio material are compatible.
Dolby Atmos spatial audio with head tracking is included, alongside hybrid adaptive active noise cancellation and a transparency mode. An eight-band equalizer and guided sound personalization are available through the Smart Control Plus app.
These are manufacturer specifications, not a hands-on sound assessment. Codec support alone does not guarantee better audible quality, and iPhone users will not receive aptX Lossless because Apple devices do not support that codec. Fit, ear-tip seal and source quality can matter as much as a specification sheet.
Calls, connections and durability
Four microphones per earbud work with a bone-conduction microphone and AI-assisted voice isolation. Sennheiser also claims automatic wind-noise suppression for calls and listening modes.
Bluetooth 6.0, Google Fast Pair, Microsoft Swift Pair and multipoint switching are supported. A selectable “robust mode” is intended to improve reliability in crowded wireless environments. Multipoint must be enabled through the app and allows two paired source devices to remain connected.
The earbuds carry an IP54 rating, meaning they are designed to resist dust and splashes. They should not be submerged, worn in the shower or rinsed under running water. The charging case does not have the same water-resistance rating, so wet earbuds should be dried before returning them to the case.
Who should consider them
The Momentum True Wireless 5 is aimed at buyers who prioritize audio quality, strong codec support, adjustable ANC and long-term ownership. Replaceable batteries are a substantial advantage for someone planning to keep premium earbuds beyond the usual two- or three-year battery decline.
The price is the obvious obstacle. At ₹29,990 or $299.95, these compete with flagship earbuds from Apple, Bose, Sony and Technics. Buyers mainly interested in calls, commuting or casual listening can find capable ANC earbuds for much less.
It is also wise to verify replacement-battery availability before buying. If BA 501 and BA 502 cells are not sold locally when needed, importing them could undermine the convenience and cost advantage of the design.
The practical significance
Sennheiser has not solved every repairability problem, but it has addressed the most predictable wear item in a wireless earbud. If replacement cells remain available at sensible prices, the Momentum True Wireless 5 could stay useful far longer than a sealed rival.
That makes the product notable beyond its audio features. Premium earbuds are becoming more expensive; offering a realistic path to renew their batteries is one of the clearest ways a manufacturer can make that price easier to defend.
