Honor has launched the Magic9 Pro Max in China with two 200-megapixel rear cameras, an 8,800mAh silicon-carbon battery and a mobile video workflow developed with cinema-camera company ARRI. The flagship starts at RMB 6,499 and is already on sale in China, while Honor says wider regional launches will be announced later.
The headline specifications are ambitious, but the Magic9 Pro Max is not simply chasing resolution. Honor is positioning the phone as a compact filmmaking system, combining larger camera sensors, manual controls, ARRI color tools, directional audio and optional lens and rig accessories.
Dual 200MP cameras lead the hardware
The main camera uses a 200MP, 1/1.28-inch-type sensor with an f/1.57 aperture, optical stabilization and what Honor describes as three-degree gimbal-level stabilization. A second 200MP camera handles telephoto work through a 1/1.4-inch-type sensor, an f/2.6 aperture and optical stabilization. Honor says both reach a CIPA 8.0 stabilization rating under its test conditions.
A 50MP f/2.0 ultrawide completes the rear system. The front combines a 55MP square-format selfie camera with a 3D depth sensor, allowing the phone to crop the same capture into vertical or horizontal framing for selfies, group shots and vlogs.
The company’s new H1 imaging chip is built on a 6nm process and handles real-time RAW-domain noise reduction. Honor claims the full imaging pipeline can improve signal-to-noise ratio by 8dB and produce up to 14 stops of cinematic dynamic range. Those figures come from Honor’s laboratory tests and will need independent verification in real shooting conditions.
What ARRI contributes
The official Honor announcement says the collaboration brings selected elements of ARRI Image Science into capture, color management and real-time preview. ARRI Cinema Mode supports recording at up to 4K 60fps with the ARRI LogC3 curve, 10-bit color and ARRI Wide Gamut 3.
The phone includes 14 preset ARRI Looks, while Honor says creators can access 87 predefined grades through the wider ARRI Look Library. These tools should be most useful to people who color-grade footage after shooting; casual users may get more value from the built-in Looks and live preview.
Honor also includes a four-microphone Cinematic Directional Microphone system. ARRI Cinema Mode groups controls for shutter speed, ISO, white balance, focus, lens selection, aspect ratio, stabilization and audio presets in one interface. Cinematic LiveVideo captures a three-second moving moment after the shutter is held and supports up to 4K resolution, although Honor notes that some functions may arrive through later software updates.
A large battery and very fast charging
The Magic9 Pro Max carries an 8,800mAh typical-capacity silicon-carbon battery; the rated capacity is 8,600mAh. It supports 100W wired charging with the included Honor SuperCharge adapter and 80W wireless charging with a compatible Honor wireless charger sold separately.
That capacity is considerably larger than the batteries in most mainstream flagship phones, but capacity alone does not determine endurance. Display brightness, cellular conditions, camera use and MagicOS power management will influence real-world results. Honor has not published standardized runtime figures in its launch announcement.
Display, processor and durability
The 6.8-inch LTPO OLED display has an anti-reflective coating and Honor’s NanoCrystal Shield. The company advertises up to 10,000 nits of peak brightness, but clarifies that this is a momentary peak measurement rather than sustained full-screen output. Honor claims reflectance as low as 1.5%.
Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 powers the phone. Honor pairs it with MagicOS 11 based on Android 17, including YOYO Memory for organizing saved content and cross-brand file transfer with supported Android, iOS, macOS and Windows devices. Transfers to Apple and Windows hardware require the Honor Connect app and compatible operating-system versions.
The phone carries IP68, IP69 and IP69K water- and dust-resistance ratings under controlled tests. That does not make it an underwater camera: Honor specifically says it is not intended for professional underwater use and that resistance can decline with wear.
Optional accessories turn it into a camera rig
Honor plans several add-ons, including the SmallRig Mobile Video Kit and G200 and G500 teleconverters. They are optional products with availability that may vary by market. Pricing for the accessories was not included in the global announcement.
The phone’s camera island takes inspiration from the three-lens turret used on the 1937 ARRIFLEX 35. The wider 1+2 arrangement separates the main camera from the two smaller modules and is intended to keep fingers away from the lenses while shooting.
Price and availability
China receives four configurations: 12GB/256GB, 12GB/512GB, 16GB/512GB and 16GB/1TB. Sales began September 28 at RMB 6,499, with Shadow Black, Glacier Silver and Moss Green color choices.
Honor says releases across Europe, the Middle East and Africa, Southeast Asia and other international markets will be announced shortly. It has not confirmed U.S. availability, overseas pricing or which accessories will reach each region. As The Verge reports, the international launch is coming later, but a date has not been provided.
Who this phone is for
The Magic9 Pro Max is aimed at mobile filmmakers and photographers who want more control than an ordinary camera app provides. Dual large 200MP sensors, LogC3 recording, manual controls and optional rig hardware make that intention clear.
Still, megapixels and cinema branding do not guarantee the best images. Autofocus, processing, lens quality, heat management and software stability will matter in practice. Until international pricing and independent tests arrive, the Magic9 Pro Max is best viewed as a technically notable China-first flagship rather than a proven buying recommendation.
