Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max officially reached stores on September 18, giving buyers their first chance to pick up the new flagship phones without a preorder.
This year’s Pro models focus on changes that affect everyday use rather than a completely new design. Here are the upgrades that matter most.
1. A20 Pro moves to a new generation
The phones use Apple’s A20 Pro chip together with a next-generation vapor chamber. Apple says the combination delivers its highest sustained iPhone performance yet, which should matter most during gaming, video work and other demanding tasks.
2. The main camera finally gets variable aperture
The 48MP Fusion Main camera now has six aperture blades and four user-selectable aperture settings. That gives photographers more control over depth of field and light than previous iPhones offered.
3. Battery life is a major focus
Apple says the Pro Max delivers its largest battery-life improvement yet. The company rates it for up to 30 hours of use under its updated usage model. Real-world endurance will still depend on network conditions, screen brightness and workload.
4. Siri AI ships with iOS 27
Siri AI is rolling out in beta with iOS 27. It can use personal context, understand information on screen and work across messages, email and photos. Language and regional availability remain limited at launch.
5. Prices start at $1,199
In the U.S., iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1,199 and the Pro Max at $1,299. Storage options run from 256GB to 2TB, with black, silver, glacier and burgundy finishes.
Who should pay attention?
The camera and battery changes are likely to be more meaningful to owners of older iPhones than people who upgraded last year. Buyers should also remember that Apple’s AI features are still rolling out and can vary by language and region.
